My name is Jordan Tondre and I am a Junior Marketing Major at Texas A&M University. When starting college I had no idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, and honestly I still don’t. However, I am much closer to figuring it out compared to Freshman year. I chose Mays Business School because my family owns/manages a trucking and road construction business in my hometown of Hondo, TX, so I was always drawn to business. Marketing drew me in because in my opinion, it is the creative side of business and has the broadest reach compared to other majors, such as accounting and finance.

Growing up I have always been creative and loved designing and developing original ideas, so creativity is important to me. As a marketing major at Mays, I work on an abundance of group projects and presentations, where I am able to use my creativity whether it is designing presentations or generating new ideas. I have learned to think outside the box, brainstorm, and work with a diverse group of people. Additionally, I have learned to think more analytically. For example, in a marketing research project, we had to determine cause and effect relationships from research we conducted in surveys and focus groups. Marketing is about little details and the entire big picture and making the two come together, which motivates me. Another reason I love marketing is because it is constantly changing. Marketers are always trying to figure out new ways to do things and how to improve. Personal growth is important to me so I connect with this idea.

I do not know what job I am going to have when I graduate, but I know I am on the right track. I am taking classes that cover the broad range of marketing such as sales, retail, and advertising to help me determine what interests me. More importantly, I am trying to gain as much experience as possible, which is why I sought out a spring internship in marketing. I was very fortunate to become a Marketing Intern at JBKnowledge, Inc. As a technology company, it is very new and foreign to me because I can hardly work my cell phone, but I am loving learning more about this industry. I am still fairly new here, but I am really excited to see what the future holds and am looking forward to what this experience will teach me about marketing, working with technology, and myself.
