An Inside Look Into My Time In College and JBKnowledge

Howdy, my name is Ashley Pesek and I have been a Marketing Intern at JBKnowledge, Inc. since January 2015. I am a Senior Marketing Major at Texas A&M University and I will be graduating with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing this December. My time here at JBKnowledge, Inc. has been an amazing experience so far. I have never interned for a company that has been so patient and given me so many opportunities to learn and grow.

When I started college, if someone would have told me about all of the organizations I would join and all of the internships I would complete, I probably would have laughed. I grew up in Needville, Texas, which is a tiny town about an hour south of Houston with a population of a little over 1,000 people. Deciding to leave my little country town, where people would ask, “if we rode horses to school” to attend Texas A&M University, was pretty nerve racking. I chose to major in marketing because I loved the ability to be creative and the flexibility to be able to work in any industry.

I started my college career by joining a Freshman Leadership Organization called Progressively Reaching Excellence in Professionalism (PREP) through Mays Business School. This organization taught me how to better prepare myself for the business environment, so as a freshman business student it was a great starting point. My sophomore year I joined the student organizations CARPOOL and Aggie Transition Camps. CARPOOL is an organization that gives back to the community by providing free safe rides home to students, Thursday through Saturday from 10pm – 3am, every weekend during the school year. This organization’s goal is to stop the occurrence of drunk driving in the Bryan/College Station area. Aggie Transition Camp helps welcome transfer students into the Aggie family through a two night camping experience led by current Texas A&M University students. All of these organizations have taught me how to uphold the core values that Texas A&M represents.

Looking back at my time here at A&M, I can honestly say that I wouldn’t have asked for my college experience to be any different. I have met some of my best friends, I have had the opportunity to intern for some really driven and successful people and I have had a really great time. I can also say that my time here at JBKnowledge has been especially awesome. Every day there is a new project, task or meeting to prepare for.

There hasn’t been one day where I’ve sat longer than 10 minutes without having something to do. The fast paced, always changing and innovating environment is what makes this internship so unique. The day I interviewed for this internship, I never would have thought I would be on a team of peers in the JBK Research and Development lab working on launching a new product. I also wouldn’t have guessed that I would be working on putting together a conference for over 100 of our SmartBidNet users. This isn’t the typical type of internship where I go fetch coffee for my boss, but instead it’s an internship that has taught me how to apply all of the different marketing strategies that I have learned in my courses at Texas A&M. Thanks to JBKnowledge, I now have a better understanding of what to expect and how to succeed after I graduate!
